In 1811, Captain Paul Cuffee went to Sierra Leone, Africa, to visit the settlement of black loyalists who had fled the United States after the American Revolution. He continued on to England, where he visited schools and factories and met with abolitionists, political figures, and the Duke of Gloucester. This biography of Cuffe was printed in the Liverpool Mercury in the fall of 1811 as he prepared to leave England.
